Sustainability

It's in our nature

Explore

There was a time when ‘sustainability’ was simply called ‘quality’. It was a time of pride: in professional skill, craftsmanship, product lines and materials.

When Swedese was founded, quality was the overriding watchword. The furniture would not only be beautiful enough to be cherished for a lifetime but could be passed down from one generation to the next.

Seventy-five years later we’re working on exactly the same principle. We call our vision 'pioneering easy living' – a direct continuation of Yngve's path, based on human beings and their surrounding environment.

Of course, we know even more today than we did then. Over the years, new insights have broadened our understanding of quality. Now, in addition to affirming the quality of human life, quality for us includes upholding the diversity of nature and protecting the earth's various ecosystems.

We could call it ‘quality’ or ‘sustainability’, but we could also put them together – ‘sustainable quality’. Yngve’s legacy is about creating things that last: to be used immediately, in ten years' time, and by your great-grandchildren. It’s our belief that this is the way forward.

Environment

Swedese’s environmental policy stems from the idea of sustainable development.

In February 2002, Swedese achieved ISO 14001 environmental certification. Swedese Möbler AB strives to ensure that its decisions and activity have the least possible environmental impact in terms of primary materials, manufacturing processes and end products. The business will comply with or exceed legal environmental standards.

Quality

Sustainable quality underpins everything

Every stage of our process – from design to production, via selection of materials, purchasing, premises and transport – is characterised by the concept of sustainable quality.

For example, our factories in Vaggeryd and Äng in Småland are heated by district heating and geothermal energy respectively. 100% of the electricity we use is carbon neutral and is therefore classified by the Swedish ecolabel Bra miljöval as a Good Environmental Choice.
